How to attend your Zoom appointment:

The ZOOM link to join the appointment will be in the confirmation email from the Study Abroad Writing Consultant.

If you need to cancel your appointment:

Cancel at least 24 hours in advance if you cannot make it. Email sgranoff@utk.edu, with a copy to writingcenter@utk.edu.

  • Students with more than 2 late cancellations (less than 24 hours in advance) or no-shows will not be able to schedule future appointments with the Study Abroad Writing Consultant.

Guidelines:

  • You may schedule up to 1 hour of online writing consultation time per week (pending availability). You may request additional time if needed, and we will allow it if the consultant is available.
  • Appointments may be made between 2-7 days in advance.
  • Plan ahead:
    • Schedule in advance to make sure the consultant can meet with you when you need writing support.
    • Having a conversation early in the process of working on your project results in the greatest overall success. (You don’t need a complete draft to talk with the consultant.)
    • If you have a longer document, plan on a series of appointments that focus on specific parts of a draft during each separate meeting. (The writing consultant can’t provide meaningful suggestions on long drafts in a single meeting right before the due date.)
  • Keep in mind that the Herbert Writing Center helps during the brainstorming stage through final revisions in conversations that help you develop confidence and skill as a writer. While we are not a proofreading service, we’re happy to provide assistance and feedback on grammar.

Talk with a writing consultant about how to represent your study abroad experiences and insights in job or graduate school applications, on your resumé or CV, or in presentations you may deliver–such as a poster presentation for the annual Global Immersion Showcase.
